Colorado Springs Flights And Sights

Flying To Colorado Springs With American Airlines

Nestle up to the foot of the Rockies when you take an American Airlines flight to Colorado Springs. The beauty of the second-largest city in Colorado attracts all kinds of travelers: you can see the world-class Broadmoor resort and the stunning red rock formations of Garden of the Gods below the omnipresent backdrop of Pikes Peak when you fly to Colorado Springs with American Airlines.

Gaze in awe at one of the most spectacular public parks in the country, Garden of the Gods. This natural masterwork of red rock formations is set just east of the Rocky Mountains. Don’t miss the unmistakable peaks, nicknamed Kissing Camels and the Siamese Twins. Hit the visitor center and then hike, bike, or horseback ride on the trails.

Take one of three routes to the summit of 14,100-foot Pikes Peak: by car on the Pikes Peak Highway; by train on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway; or by foot on the trail. The mountain was named for explorer Zebulon Pike, who thought it would never be climbed. Today, it's the most visited mountain in North America.

Head just west of downtown Colorado Springs with the family to historic Manitou Springs. Between the century-old coin-operated games at Arcade Amusements to art galleries to the luxurious Cliff House Resort, the artsy town has something for everyone. You’ll also find the trailhead and the railway station for Pikes Peak.

Visit the landmark 1918 resort the Broadmoor, one of the top lodgings in the West. It’s worth a visit even if you're not spending the night to stroll around the Broadmoor’s extensive grounds, relax with a drink at one of its watering holes, and count the celebrity visitors whose photographs line the “walk of fame.” The Broadmoor has hosted luminaries from Slim Pickens to President Barack Obama.

Wander through the galleries and see a range of American art at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. The historic, 75-year-old property has hosted lectures by Frank Lloyd Wright and performances from dancer Martha Graham. View its superlative collections of American, Native American, and Hispanic art, catch a show by the resident theatre company or take a class at the museum's art school.

There’s plenty to see and do– check out the Money Museum and the ProRodeo Hall of Fame, along with more natural attractions that are next door, such as Mueller State Park and Monarch Mountain. American will be with you every step of the way.

Gawk at more than a quarter of a million objects at American Numismatic Association's Money Museum. The collection tells the compelling story of money and its history with such fascinating artifacts as one of the first Spanish reale coins struck in the New World, dating to 1536, and a complete collection of U.S. Gold coins from 1834 to 1933.

Ski and snowboard at Monarch Mountain, one of Colorado's friendliest and best family ski resorts. Located 20 miles west of the fun and funky little town of Salida (full of galleries and restaurants), Monarch features 63 trails for all skill levels. Best of all, lift lines are a rarity.

Get to know some of the roughest, toughest athletes in the West at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame & American Cowboy Museum—both human and animal. Beyond honoring the legends of rodeo, the museum is home to a replica arena, a real live rodeo animal, and gear used by some of the true legends of the sport.

Go on a wilderness adventure close to the city at Mueller State Park, a 5,000-acre miniature version of Rocky Mountain National Park. Hike some of the park's 55 miles of trails, look for such resident wildlife as elk and bighorn sheep, and then pitch a tent and stay the night at the campground.

Hit the links for a round of golf. With Pikes Peak as the backdrop, it’s guaranteed to be scenic. Check out top municipal courses such as Patty Jewett and Pine Creek. Serious golfers will want to book a room at the Broadmoor and try its 54-hole course, or Cheyenne Mountain Resort for its Pete Dye-designed championship course, characterized by its broad fairways and lakeside location.
