Earn Miles
Earn miles when flying on American Airlines, American Eagle® and AmericanConnection® carrier flights for travel on an eligible published fare ticket. Miles are also earned for travel on American Airlines, American Eagle or AmericanConnection codeshare flights operated by other airlines.
Travel on American Airlines and affiliate airlines counts toward qualifying for AAdvantage elite status membership.

*Effective for travel May 1, 2012 and beyond, tickets between North America and Latin America booked in O are eligible for mileage credit. Travel prior to May 1, 2012 is not eligible for mileage credit. **In some cases, AA codeshare flights booked in 'W' (marketed by AA and operated by other airlines), represents travel in a Premium Economy cabin or fare. The rate at which AAdvantage miles or points are earned for travel in Premium Economy will be based on the operating carrier's individual program rules. For example, travel in Premium Economy on a flight operated by British Airways or Qantas Airways will earn an additional 10% class of service bonus. Travel on a Premium Economy fare on a flight operated by Japan Airlines does not earn an additional class of service bonus. |

There are certain airline ticket types that are not eligible for mileage accrual regardless of the booking class. These include, without limitation, the following:
- all tickets issued as AAdvantage awards
- other free ticket promotions including free or reduced rate tickets
- companion tickets
- charter flight tickets
- travel agency/industry reduced rate tickets
- infant tickets
- items occupying a purchased seat
- unpublished fare tickets, including consolidator fares
- tickets issued subject to special provisions
Redeem AAdvantage Miles
You can use your AAdvantage miles to fly to exciting destinations on American Airlines, American Eagle and the AmericanConnection® carrier. All awards are valid for one-way travel - unless otherwise specified - and may be combined to create a round-trip or multi-city trips. Restrictions apply to some of these awards. Please read all award and claiming information before selecting an award.
AAnytime® Awards provide you with the most flexibility, allowing you to book any unsold seat on any day.
MileSAAver® Awards provide you with an economical alternative, if you are flexible with your travel plans, but are subject to special limitations on seating availability and to certain travel embargo dates.
Upgrade Awards provide you with the opportunity to purchase an Economy Class or Business Class ticket and use AAdvantage miles, along with a non-refundable co-pay, if applicable, to confirm an upgrade to the next higher cabin.
- Upgrade awards are only valid on individual published-fare tickets on flights marketed and operated by American Airlines and are subject to capacity controls. Co-Payment is non-refundable and inclusive of U.S. excise tax where applicable.
- Upgrades are valid to the next class of service and limited to a single one-way trip with a maximum of three segments.
- Within the Upgrade Awards Chart (see below), the various upgrade categories are defined as follows:
- Full Fare Economy is defined as published fares booked in Y or B (excluding Military or Government fares)
- Select Business is defined as published fares booked in I
- Full Fare Business is defined as published fares booked in J, D or R.

The following benefits apply to AAdvantage Executive Platinum, AAdvantage Platinum and AAdvantage Gold members when flying on American Airlines, American Eagle, the AmericanConnection carrier or when traveling on codeshare flights booked under the AA flight number:

Missing Mileage Credit
Please allow up to seven (7) days for AAdvantage mileage to automatically post to your account.
To request missing mileage credit for flights flown on American Airlines, complete an online mileage request form. When completing this form, choose American Airlines from the "Select Airline Flown" drop-down menu.
